Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job learning (OJL) and related technical instruction (RTI) under the supervision of a journey-level craft person or trade professional in which workers learn the practical and theoretical aspects of this highly skilled occupation.
Registered Apprenticeship is a program of the United States Department of Labor that connects job seekers looking to learn new skills with employers looking for qualified workers. Employers, employer associations, and joint labor-management organizations, known collectively as “sponsors” provide apprentices with paid on-the-job learning and academic instruction that reflects industry needs. The goal of such instruction is to provide workers with advanced skillsets that meet specific needs of their employers.
NJLICA is proud to promote a US-DOL approved Registered Apprenticeship Program for its members and industry firms in New Jersey. Our program is administered through an ERISA Trust.

With a construction apprenticeship, you start with a job and build a career. Simply put, a contractor hires you, and then you enroll in the NJLICA’s Apprenticeship Program. Over the next one to three years, you will learn everything you need — through in-class related technical instruction and on-the-job training — to strive in all aspects of your chosen trade. Currently, New Jersey Land Improvement Contractors of America offers apprenticeships in 3 US-DOL approved programs.
